Last week, at 67, my wife and I were fortunate enough to be eligible to receive the Astra Zeneca vaccine. As with most vaccines, one wonders if you will have any side effects. I did feel a bit chilled that evening, but other than that, absolutely nothing, to the point I wondered if it was working at all. A few months ago, I received the “Shingles” vaccine which did leave me with a sore upper arm for most of a day. I realize I was more fortunate than some, but I am very thankful for the vaccine and the reduced potential impact that COVID-19 (or the variants) might have on me.
Having said that, I think it is very important that we all remember that just because I am somewhat protected, I should not let my guard down AND I need to remember that I can still, to some degree, carry COVID-19 and potentially impact others. With or without the vaccine, we all must still do our part by masking, washing our hands, physically distancing and staying home as much as possible especially if you are feeling ill. For the most part, COVID-19 is spread by people - and that is something we can all help reduce.
Please get vaccinated as soon as you can and keep protecting yourself and the community by following public health guidelines.
