Marriage Licensing Now Available

Marriage Licences are issued at the Municipal Office located at 312915 Dereham Line, Mt. Elgin Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cost of a marriage licence in South-West Oxford is $100. Payment may be made by cash or debit. Marriage licences issued in South-West Oxford are valid for a marriage taking place anywhere within Ontario and for up to three months from the date of issuance.

Prior to your appointment, the Marriage Licence Application Form must be completed and signed by both applicants. Individuals applying for a marraige must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Applicants between the ages of 16 and 17 require parental consent.
Only one of the applicants needs to attend to purchase the marriage licence; however, both parties are welcome. If only one person is attending, two (2) original pieces of government issued identification must be provided for both applicants. Only original pieces of idenitification will be accepted. A passport and birth certificate and/or drivers licence is preferred.
If one or both of the applicants applying for a marriage licence has been divorced and the divorce was granted in Canada, the original or a certified true copy of the decree absolute or the certificate of divorce must also be provided. Divorce judgements are not accepted. If the divorce was granted outside of Canada, the Registrar General's authorization is required. Please contact Service Ontario for more information.
Once a marriage licence has been issued, it is valid for a period of three (3) months. Upon expiry, a new marriage licence would need to be obtained. No refunds are provided for marriage licences.
