Message from Mayor David Mayberry - Monday, May 11th, 2020

This past week the Premier announced that certain businesses (Hardware stores and Garden Centers) are now able to reopen under certain circumstances. This is good news in that it begins to indicate that we may have reached a plateau. For the most part, the information provided by the province requires at door or curb side pick-up for businesses with street front locations.
In addition, the province will be opening provincial parks (some on May 11, some on May 15) for day use only with appropriate physical distancing and no camping. As in municipal parks, no play structures or pavilions will be accessible for use of visitors. Park staff will be allowed to do some maintenance work. The reopening of green spaces is also good news for those who are feeling “penned up” over the past few weeks. We know that daily exercise is good for both one’s physical and mental health.
While these announcements are welcomed news, please remember to continue the safety precautions you have been respecting for the past several weeks. Despite this good news, we are not out of the crisis yet. We need to remain vigilant over the coming weeks to reduce the risk of a resurgence of the virus. Please keep washing your hands, keep apart, cough/sneeze into your sleeve and take special precautions around the elderly and most vulnerable. Frankly, we are doing well; let’s keep it that way!
