As I sit here on a Saturday off from farm work and no place to go because of the distancing that we are practicing there is lots of time for reflecting on things. Being a dairy farmer and still actively involved in the day to day operation it is hard to contemplate not having a purpose to get up in the morning as a lot of people do whose businesses or work places are shut down. Being the time of year that we are working hard to get ready for spring work, I do get a lot of time outdoors and am busy encough to mostly keep my mind occupied repairing equipment and caring for the animals. That being said we are still affected whether it is delays in getting parts, or the fact we too had to dump milk. The way we have to react with our suppliers or worry every time we have to go out for essentials that we are keeping everyone we come into contact with safe as well as ourselves.
The fact that we have Zoom and Facetime and cell phones does not replace the hugs from grandchildren and the interaction with loved ones. We all miss socializing and the longer it goes on the more it hurts. My heart goes out to you who are worried about money and paying bills or how to keep young ones busy who don't understand why we are doing this and elderly parents. My admiration for all the essential workers who are coping with stress and worry about their health and loved ones as they still show up for work every day.
We as Council are working hard to keep on top of the ever changing landscape. We are still meeting electronically and are constantly being kept up to date by our amazing staff. We will continue to look at ways that we can help you within our means.
Please keep safe and healthy; hopefully soon we will be able to walk in the warm sunshine, if Mother Nature cooperates, and be able to socialize with friends, family and neighbours in person.
